I have some really exciting news to share and I wanted you to be the first to hear it before it’s printed this week.
I am running for Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD) Area 2! After 12 years of service as a trustee for Area 2 (Thousand Oaks/Oak Park/part of Camarillo), Dianne McKay will not be re-running. I’ve spent the last six years at Mustang Marketing getting a unique perspective on the district through her position there, while similarly, she’s seen and supported my advocacy locally for public education. “Your passion, commitment to public schools, and your advocacy for equity and access will serve you extremely well in this role,” Dianne said. “You’ll take the time to dig in on the issues and have the ability to bring some harmony and further collaboration to the board.” When elected to represent Area 2 for our community college district, I’d like to work together as a board to …
I’d like to work together as a board to ensure that our policies aren’t just compliance-driven, but improvement-driven. It’s an exciting time in the district, with funding approved for student housing at Ventura College, with discussions to be had on how we can create stronger partnerships with our local unions and workforce industry, with opportunities to examine how we are placing students and the accessibility of classes … and so much more. Having grown up in Ventura County, where my husband and I are now raising our two girls, I have a deeply vested interest in the success of our community colleges. I’ve seen firsthand through my job at Mustang Marketing how vital our community colleges are to our local business economy. Right now, it’s more important than ever to ensure that our public schools and community college districts are represented by trustees willing to put in the work to create effective change that supports student success. I’m thrilled to have the early support of VCCCD Trustee Dianne McKay, Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, Oxnard Union High School District Trustee Karen Sher, CVUSD Trustee Cindy Goldberg and former UACT president Colleen Briner-Schmidt, among other notable and well-respected community and education leaders. I am in the process of filing the necessary paperwork in order to open a bank account. and donation platform. Thank you for your early support!
